The Hindu community in the United Kingdom is one of the oldest and most vibrant immigrant communities, with a rich cultural, religious, and social heritage. Despite their longstanding contributions to British society, the community has increasingly been subjected to systemic persecution and marginalisation.

In 2010, the UK government attempted to introduce legislation to recognise caste-based discrimination as part of the Equality Act. While framed as a progressive step toward social justice, the proposal was met with widespread concern and resistance from British Hindu, Sikh, and Jain communities.

Rashmi Samant’s election as the first Indian woman President of the Oxford University Student Union (SU) in February 2021 was celebrated as a monumental achievement for the Indian community, particularly for Hindus across the globe.

On a September evening in 2022, the otherwise quiet town of Smethwick in the West Midlands was shaken by a targeted and aggressive protest outside the Durga Bhawan Hindu Centre.

In January 2025, a UK Home Office report was leaked to the public, revealing concerns over emerging security threats, including Hindu nationalist extremism and Khalistani extremism.

On September 1, 2024, the community of Leicester was rocked by the brutal racist attack and subsequent death of 80-year-old Bhim Kohli.
