INSIGHT UK strongly condemns the ongoing Hindu genocide in Bangladesh and calls upon global authorities to not ignore the plight of Hindus and urgently take action to stop the genocide.

The recent wave of violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, which erupted after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted and fled the country, is a deeply troubling development that raises serious concerns about the response from human rights groups, the media and politicians about this ongoing genocide of Hindus.

Hindus are being targeted and killed in well-orchestrated attacks by Islamists. Hindu people, their temples, homes and properties have all been targeted, resulting in murder, public lynchings, vandalism, arson, rape and violence.

Dozens of videos are circulating of threats by Islamists to Hindu women and Hindu places of worship. Hindus are now attempting to flee to neighbouring India at the border.

A human rights group documented at least 3,679 attacks on the Hindu community between January 2013 and September 2021. This targeted violence has increased since the country was plunged into turmoil in the past weeks. Unfortunately, very few have raised their voice for the Bangladeshi Hindus. The media, politicians, influencers, activists, and human rights groups, appear to be doing very little. It’s crucial at this time for all communities to stand against religious intolerance and protect minorities, and we ask you all to raise your voices.

INSIGHT UK will be working with UK human rights organisations, political bodies, Hindu organisations, and more, to ensure Hindus are protected in Bangladesh and those instigating the violence are held accountable.

Summary of Incidents

1. Violence and vandalism: Hindus and other minority places of worship and properties have been systematically attacked and vandalised. Iconic Hindu and other minority temples, some centuries old, have been desecrated and idols have been destroyed. Homes and businesses owned by Hindus and other minorities have been looted and set on fire.

2. Physical assaults and killings: Reports indicate that numerous Hindu and other minority men, women and children have been subjected to brutal assaults. There have been multiple cases of murders of Hindus and other community members, creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity.

3. Molestation and sexual violence: Hindu and other minority women and girls have been victims of molestation and sexual violence. These heinous acts are intended to terrorise the community and force them into submission or migration.

4. Forced Displacement: The continuous persecution has resulted in a mass exodus of Hindu families. It is estimated that over 1.5 million (15 lakhs) Hindu and other minority refugees including men, women, children and elderly are fleeing to India to seek refuge.

Fact Sheet

A fact sheet has been prepared by the Bengali Hindu Adarsha Snagh (BHAS) on the ongoing genocide of Hindus in Bangladesh. The fact sheet covers the recent Hindu genocidal efforts in Bangladesh by Islamic radicals and fundamentalists

The recent events in Bangladesh have resulted in radical Islamic fundamentalists launching an all-out attack on minority communities, particularly the Hindus. The events unfolded as follows: First, a lower court issued an order regarding the quota system in Bangladesh’s civil service. This triggered Islamists to rail against the quota system. On July 21, the Supreme Court of Bangladesh reduced the quota, increasing the recruitment percentage for government jobs to 93%. However, this failed to stop the Islamists.

Protests

Protests to raise awareness of the genocide of Hindus in Bangladesh were held around the world including the UK.
