The classmates “brainwashed” the Hindu boy into agreeing to change his name to Mohammed and cutting his kalava (a Hindu bracelet) using scissors. The Muslim boys also told the Hindu boy that “meat makes you strong” and halal meat “makes you stronger”, despite him being a vegetarian.

The incidents have since been resolved by the school, leading to the suspension of the Muslim boys and their parents being informed. However, the Hindu parent is concerned about how and why his son’s classmates attempted to convert his child. He added: “We never talk about any other religion at home, not even our own religion.”

He would not have known of all these incidents if it wasn’t for his son coming home one day with a change in behaviour.

After learning about the situation, the father informed the class teacher, who explained that it was just kids exploring things.

After learning about the classmates threatening to stop being friends with the Hindu boy if he does not change his name, the teacher then suspended the three students. Worried it could be happening in other schools, the parents spoke to other families and neighbours about their experience.

The father showed Ealing Nub News email messages between him and Springwell’s Headteacher, Mrs Kamaljeet Grewal, acknowledging the situation. She told the father that the school is actively working to create a safe and inclusive environment, with policies in place to prevent grooming, indoctrination, and pressurization related to faith or ideological beliefs.
