Akshaya means that which never diminishes, eternal, and Tritīyā means the third day of the bright fortnight of the month. Whatever spiritual activity and acts of charity one performs on this day, the results are inexhaustible and bring unending grace and blessings.

Akshaya Tritīyā symbolises affluence and eternal wealth. It is commonly believed that undertaking any auspicious endeavour on this day guarantees enduring success and fortune. Any venture initiated on this day is assumed to grow and bring success and prosperity and remain eternally. Observed through the purchase of gold and engaging in spiritual practices, this day symbolises a quest for divine blessings for wealth and prosperity, achieved through acts of charity, puja, and visits to temples. A practical outlook of this age-old tradition is that investing in gold is always profitable and can never fail to yield a profit on resale.

Akshaya Tritīyā is the most auspicious day of the year. The entire day is considered to be auspicious to perform any auspicious activity like a wedding ceremony, entering the New House (Griha Pravesh), etc. It is believed that any activity that commences on this day will always be victorious, indestructible, and eventually flourish with time.
